COMMISSION

THE COMMISSION PROCESS

Inquiry & Project Review

There are currently two commission seasons where I am able to accept commissions. However, if you have a project in mind, please feel free to reach out any time to check availability as openings are sometimes available outside of the typical commission season depending on the complexity and alignment of projects. In the contact form, add the details about your project, timeline, genre, and artistic goals. I’ll review your submission and follow up with any questions to ensure we’re a good fit. The sooner ahead you can inquire, the better. It is typically recommended to reach out no later than 4-8 months in advance, depending on the complexity of your project.

The Project Brief

Once your commission is confirmed, we’ll discuss the visual direction, themes, mood, references, and key elements you would like incorporated into the artwork. This stage establishes the foundation for the illustration. If you are looking to commission a book cover (art, design, or both) you will need to complete and submit a separate Project Brief. Once your project has been reviewed and contract signed, we can schedule your project and discuss a general timeline.

Sketch & Composition

Once we have discussed the details and direction of the project, I will create initial sketches exploring composition, character placement, and storytelling details. You’ll have the opportunity to provide feedback and request revisions before moving into the final artwork.

Final Illustration & Design

After the composition is approved, I begin the final rendering process—developing the details, atmosphere, and visual elements that bring your story to life.

Delivery & Licensing

Upon completion, final high-resolution files are delivered according to your project needs. Licensing terms and usage rights are outlined in your commission agreement before work begins.

Each commission is a collaborative process designed to create artwork that not only represents your story, but enhances the reader’s first impression of your world.

Timeline

Commission timelines vary depending on the scope and complexity of each project. Most illustrations require approximately 6–12 weeks from initial concept development through final delivery.

Larger projects, such as fully illustrated covers, multiple character pieces, or artwork requiring extensive world-building, may require additional time.

To ensure each project receives thoughtful attention, commissions are scheduled in advance based on availability.
